WALK'MANAugust 1999Walkman means just walkman. But WALK'MAN is a word I use as a metaphor of my works related to the urban space. Since 1955 I have spent a lot of time trying to reconstruct all the walks by the towns that I visited in the past and I remember for today. From now on I also try to control and stimulate my present walks. The result of that activity is just an imaginary image of a complex, spatial structure in move, but mnemo-technical images and objects constructed during that work I am showing as a representation of my own sense of urban space - particular one as well as universal. From five years the three main ideas as: "Achanlochy" (an earth work located in rural landscape); "WALK'MAN" and desolation (or DESOLACTION, desolation -action) heve been the most significant inspirations of my work and meditations. For about 25 years I have worked especially as a writer, perfomance-maker, object-maker and installation-maker. Occasionally I also make images and sound-drawings, photographs, digital mutations of videos and digital animations. I produce all thoose things inside the frames of specific themes. Achanlochy, WALK'MAN, DESOLACTION are just themes like that. ![]() Most of the physical objects that I produce, including images, are results of analysis of my memory. Therefor Achanlochy means human presence in natural landscape and WALK'MAN, human behaviour patterns in urban space. DESOLACTION is a title that I have used since 1994 specially for my performances. I use a lot of technical equipment and hi-tech techniques to prepare those performances - the main idea is to emit an image of a part of my body and to transpose it as a characteristic of surrounding space and vice versa. During those performances I use very often objects and meanings produced for WALK'MAN and Achanlochy - and vice versa. An installation I am showing at L5 is a next simple realisation of the WALK'MAN cycle. In fact , it is a kind of compilation of shapes, relationships and proportions coming from the streets I was walking by or working on in these last months, included an inspiration of Roermond and the inside of L5. |
